Fundació Institut d’Estudis Nord-americans, hereinafter IEN, is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Please note that IEN will request personal data from you for processing in connection with your request for information and participation in events. For the same purpose this information may be shared with EducationUSA’s academic advising center in Madrid, located at the Fulbright Commission.

INFORMATION WE MAY REQUEST FROM YOU:

The IEN may request that you provide us with certain personal information. This information may include:

  • Personal and contact information, such as first name, last name, nationality, country of current residence, email address, telephone number.
  • Professional and academic information, such as academic degree, year of degree, field of study, academic institution, country, purpose of study in the US.
  • Information about your preferences, opinions, intentions and interests.

PURPOSEs FOR WHICH WE WILL PROCESS YOUR PERSONAL DATA:

The IEN will process your personal data for the following purposes and in the following areas:

  • Responding to your inquiry and sending you information related to your inquiry that we believe may be of interest to you.
  • To enable your registration for events organized by EducationUSA such as information sessions and other events related to higher education in the US.
  • Conduct internal assessments and analysis of interest in studying in the U.S.

RETENTION OF PERSONAL DATA:

IEN will retain your personal data for a period of time as long as it is necessary to fulfill the purpose described in the previous section (“Purpose for which we will process your personal data”).

YOUR RIGHTS UNDER THE GCRPD

The rights protected by the GDPR include:

  • The right to access your personal data.
  • The right to rectification of your personal data if it is incorrect or incomplete.
  • The right to erasure of your personal data if there is no reason for its processing and continued storage over time.
  • The right to object to the processing of your personal data and to restrict its processing in certain circumstances.
  • The right to request that your personal data be sent to a third party.
  • The right to withdraw your consent to the collection, processing and transfer of your personal data if you have previously given it. Withdrawal of your consent would not affect the lawfulness of the data processing before it was requested.
  • These rights may be limited, for example, if your compliance would disclose personal data about a third party, or if you request us to delete information that we are required by law or legitimate interest to retain.

The IEN reserves the right to change this privacy policy and related policies without informing you in advance. Any changes we may make in the future will be posted in this document so we encourage you to review it periodically to make sure you understand how we are handling your personal information. Any changes we make will be effective from the time we communicate them to you through this document. If we deem it appropriate, we may also inform you of changes via email.
